General Info

If you’re exploring dining spots around Alameda, May Thai Kitchen is one of those places that feels easy to settle into. The location on Park Street makes it convenient, and once you step inside, the casual and quiet atmosphere immediately stands out. It’s the kind of restaurant where you can slow down, whether you’re stopping by for a relaxed lunch or an unhurried dinner.

From the moment I looked at the menu, it was clear that this Thai restaurant focuses on familiar favorites done right. I started with the Chicken Curry Puffs, which arrived warm and flaky, with a rich filling that balanced spices without being overwhelming. They’re a great introduction to the kitchen’s style-comforting, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared.

The Tom Yum is another highlight that shouldn’t be missed. It delivers that classic Thai combination of tangy, spicy, and aromatic notes. Each spoonful feels layered, and it’s easy to see why this dish is a staple on so many tables. Pairing it with the Pad Thai Noodles makes for a satisfying meal. The noodles are well-balanced, not too sweet, and have that slightly smoky touch that gives the dish its depth.

One of the more memorable items, though, is the Sizzling Beef. Served hot and aromatic, it creates a bit of a moment when it arrives at the table. The beef is tender, and the seasoning leans savory with just enough intensity to keep things interesting. It’s a dish that feels hearty without being too heavy.

To balance the flavors, I tried the Butterfly Ice Lemon Tea. It’s refreshing and visually appealing, adding a light, citrusy contrast to the richer dishes. It’s also a nice touch if you’re looking for something non-alcoholic that still feels special.

Beyond the food, the restaurant’s services make the experience smooth and welcoming. The wheelchair accessible entrance ensures that the space is inclusive, while the overall setup keeps things simple and comfortable. There’s no rush here-just a steady flow that works equally well for a quick bite or a longer, quiet meal.

Looking through reviews and spending time there myself, it’s clear that May Thai Kitchen has built a reputation for consistency. The menu covers the essentials, the location is easy to find, and the atmosphere stays true to its casual, relaxed vibe. It’s the kind of place you can return to without overthinking it, knowing exactly what kind of experience you’ll get each time.

What customers say?

“ $69 for 2 people including tax + tip. The best part was the mango sticky rice dessert! The entrees were ok, noodles kind of overcooked imo. Their physical menu in the restaurant is kind of gross, clearly really old and needs replaced with multiple things taped over the lamination. The service was really nice though! ”

“ Visited here for lunch with family. Prices are reasonable with good portions. We ordered chicken satay, yellow curry, green curry, pad me mao and pineapple fried rice. Food was very tasty. Very good service. Restaurant is well maintained. Highly recommend this place. ”

“ I would say they are pretty good for their food and service. The restaurant is not that big like many others on the Park Street. Thai ice tea with coconut milk tastes good if you like sweets drink. Overall, their food is mild to mild spicy. If you tolerate and love spicy food, you may be kind of disappointed. But for someone can eat some spicy, their spicy are good enough to satisfy you. lol. ”

“ My friend advised this place was really good, so we went here for dinner tonight. The food was delicious, and halfway through the crab Rangoon’s I had the thought, let me take pictures (hence only 2 being shown lol) and leave them a review. Everyone at the restaurant was so friendly and they came over multiple times to check on the food’s status, to clear plates, and to bring more water. The spicy chicken wings were a perfect, crispy and saucy, so glad we got two appetizers. I ordered the spicy green bean with beef. We ended the night with dessert: the mango with sweet sticky rice, this was my FIRST time having it and I enjoyed it. My friend suggested I try since I advised I’ve never had it before. ”

“ Wonderful Thai restaurant in downtown Alameda, owned & operated by two very dedicated Thai women! May Thai serves up a diverse menu of both traditional and fusion Thai dishes, using fresh ingredients and homemade seasoning/pastes. May Thai is a great mainstay location for folks in and around Alameda. They are our local go-to for good Thai food; happily recommend! ”

“ I can’t say enough good things about May Thai. I first moved to Alameda about a year ago, and was searching for my new go-to Thai spot. I have been to countless Thai restaurants and nothing comes close to May Thai! I tell everyone I know to come here. It’s my favorite date night spot, and I take family and friends here every time somebody visits. PP is a truly masterful chef. She always makes sure that her patrons are satisfied and values every person who walks through their doors. Service is always absolutely wonderful. The kindest people and absolutely consistently amazing food. Please do yourself a favor and visit here! ”
